The Arabesque® "Suddenly Simurgh" Painting Inspired From A 1297 Persian Manuscript of Ibn Bakhtishu's Manafi' al-Hayawān Medieval Artwork

Sorry, this item has sold.

This painting copy was inspired by an Ilkhanid illustration of Simurgh from a copy of an encyclopedic work on animals in the Kitab Manafi' al-Hayawan, dating to 1297 c.e., but originally written by the Baghdadi physician for the Abbasid caliphs, Ibn Bakhtishu in the 9th century.

Simurgh is a legegndary winged creature of Iranian mythology in the form of a gigantic bird, sometimes with a dog's face and a lion's claws, depicted as a benevolent being using its wisdom and magical powers to provide help. He is the king of the birds, and one of the most brilliantly depicted creatures in medieval manuscripts, Persian and Arabic. Simurgh was a historically a symbol of power, strength, and luck.

At The Arabesque, we really admire the age old art of depicting animals in art and we always try to recreate modern historical home decor based on this theme.

This work of art is a perfect example of our love for historical animal art. It is perfect for any room in your home, especially in a nursery.
